Friday night, my big sis gave me and my man, Chayman, a gift certificate to Barbarella in Silverlake. Well actually it was a Groupon which put up some red flags because I always end up spending more money then I would have if I just went somewhere I already love closer to where I live...but I'm not gonna gripe about it...anymore. Anyway, I love to get dressed up and use just about any occasion to throw on a dress and booties (my fav go to look) or something sassy and hit the town for a new experience. Groupon or not, this was my opportunity so I went with it. My boyfriends outfit was actually my favorite of the night. Mostly because he usually just throws on what's clean, or just turns a shirt inside out and somehow that registers as clean..not sure how that works but regardless he doesn't pay attention to fashion. He walked outside and apart from how dreamy I think he is, he did so well! Go Chay! Look how cute he is...
He got this plaid shirt for 3 bucks at some store...CVS or Rite Aid...something random like that. Love it!
Matched with the aviators and his hotness I'd say its a winning combo...he's going to kill me if he reads this.
His jeans are folded. Not a fashion statement, a comfort thing. They are called "Recycled" or "Reused", something green like that. He got them for free from a sponsor of the U.S Men's National Water Polo team. He's a goalie(: ( rereeeer)
I wore this Parker dress from Madison in Malibu, but there are a few different Madison locations in LA.
These booties are blue suede with fringe tassels you can't see, and I got these babies on Ebay of all places for 35 bucks. They are J. Shoes, and I'm in love with them right now.
These are not the blue suede ones obviously, they must have been last season. These are still so adorable...maybe I need both colors.
I love the feminine flare from the bell sleeves and the subdued but sexy print. The camel belt is J. crew and is a favorite accessory of mine.
The food at this place was pretty good, the service on the other hand was slooooooow. I think of it as more time with my friends...parched...and starving...but yeah, look on the bright side.
One word. Beets. I love beets. my boyfriend didn't know he loved them until he had them here with roasted hazelnuts, spinach, burratta, and a balsamic reduction. So good!
If you go overboard on the beets, you may see it later...don't be alarmed...its the beet pigment..is that gross? I don't think so, its science. If you have no idea what Im taking about, you have not experienced it, therefore disregard.
This tapas dish is made up of quinoa with dates, spinach, and some sort of nectar. It sounds strange, but was delicious and perfect to split with friends.
The flavors contrasted in just the right ways. The graininess and pop of the quinoa added texture. When paired with the earthy and distinct flavor of spinach mixed with sweet nectar, this dish hit all the major points in my book of a satisfying and delicious meal.
*Quinoa is a grain worth eating as it is protein packed and not processed and stripped of its nutrients like so many grain options out there.
The boys got beer samplers. 4 for $8, not bad at all. I can't attest to them being good or not, I think beer tastes like urine sometimes.. not that I drink urine...but Im guessing it tastes like some beers. Maybe I was scarred from the choices back in college. Nati Ice is probably not on tap at most places.
The whole bar is decorated with cool retro pics, light fixtures, and is a very open space. Great atmosphere for a night with the guys and girls, drinking, snacking, and hanging out...for a looong time.
We sat below Jimi
Don't be fooled, their iced tea was ehh. I'd go for one of their mixed drinks or beer samples if I went again, which I won't. There are far too many great restaurants in L.A. to go somewhere twice if you did not absolutely love it. Money is tight, life is busy, and when I try a new place I want to leave there itching to come back. A girls gotta eat, and there are many places that are affordable and great. Sorry Barbarella, but I'm moving on.
